Brig (R) Dr. Tanvir Akhtar, SI (M) 

Brig (R) Dr. Tanvir Akhtar, SI (M) received his early education form Lawrence College, Ghora Gali, Murree. Graduated from Gordon College, Rawalpindi and completed his masters from Applied Psychology Department, University of the Punjab. In 1984 he joined Armed Forces as a Professional Psychologist, where he continued with his academic pursuits and became  the first ever psychologist in the Armed Forces to complete his MPhil and PhD from the National Institute of Psychology (Centre of Excellence ) Quaid-i-Azam University.

Dr. Tanvir served in Armed Forces for 31 Years, as a professional Psychologist his responsibilities included construction, validating and administration of psychological tests for selection and recruitment of army personnel. He had been the cadet advisor at Pakistan Military Academy to provide Psychological support to young cadets. As the Chief Instructor Defense Services Intelligence Academy, he was involved in teaching and administration of various academic activities in the academy. As the Chief Psychologist Pakistan Army he looked after all the psychological services being rendered to Pakistan Army.

Dr.Tanvir also taught at MSc, MPhil and PhD levels at National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University and Fatima Jinnah Women University. He has also supervised and was an external examiner of research thesis of more than 300 MSc, MPhil and PhD students. He also had the honour of being Vice President of Alumni Association of National Institute of Psychology. Has a number published research articles in reputed journals in the field of psychology.


The department of Psychology in FURC strives to promote the scientific discipline of Psychology through the established and relevant programs. Psychology, being an emerging field globally, is mainly concerned with human behavior and mental processes. By the latest scientific advancements in the mental evolution of the human race, studying consciousness is an extremely interesting area, not only for Psychologists but for many other disciplines. Psychology is influential in almost every walk of life. Its applications are found in hospitals, educational institutions, industries, humanitarian agencies, rehabilitation centers etc. The department, having sufficient human and physical resources is still on its way to grow further and further to become a center of excellence in education, research, mental health and social services.
